Bipolar Sundays

First off, I'd like to attribute the name to Emily. One of her sisters called her this one day. And this is why I feel more inclined to share. I know I'm not alone.

So every week the Sunday beast arrives in me. The bipolar Jen presents herself. I don't know why, and how to make it go away or what it wants. I've tried to simply feed it chocolate, but it is not appeased. I wake up Sunday morning ready to have a peaceful, wonderful Sunday.

I will get ready before all of the children have even awaken. I will have a hot breakfast on the table. As they come down the stairs there will be music playing. They'll enter the kitchen and I'll smile, wipe my hands on my apron and kiss them softly on the forehead. They'll...all 5 of them, calmly make their way to the table, even though Chase can't walk, he'll somehow crawl down the stairs- because after all, I do have the most talented kids alive. They'll eat peacefully, complimenting my meal, and take their dishes to the dishwasher and load them. Then tinker upstairs and get dressed for church in the clothes I ironed and set out for them the night before. After they're dressed, (and I didn't even have to ask them to) I'll fix their hair in cute braids like the polygamists ...OK, so I wouldn't do that, but it'll be one of those amazing hair do's off the internet. Then we'll all sit down and read while we wait for 10:45 to come, hoping Jasper is enjoying his short meetings as much as I am being with our perfect children. We'll quietly get in the car and drive to church. Arriving no later than 10:50. Our bench will behave with utmost respect and reverence. Then home to eat the dinner I already put in the crock pot before church. We'll enjoy the rest of the day clothing the naked and visiting the sick. It's perfect. You get the idea.

This is more like it:
The kids get up. I stayed up too late on Saturday night. They come to the side of my bed where I'm still sleeping, "mom, can we have sugar cereal?" "No, That's only for Saturday, you know that." "but moooooom, please please please" "No sweetie, please don't ask me again" "But Maddie got way more than me"

My day has begun.

They all get their own cereal. I don't know if they actually ate the sugar cereal or not. I get in the shower. But before I do, I yell down for them to all get dressed when they're done eating. I get out. No body is dressed. Dominoes scatter the entire living room floor, and a fort has been made. I help them all get dressed. What should take 5 minutes, take 25. The boys keep asking WHY they HAVE to tuck IN their shirts? Tanner wants to just wear flip flops. It's January.

Chase is crawling around finding all possible choking hazards to insert in his mouth.

I try doing the girls hair in a cute braid, the non-polygamist kind, "I don't like that" the nine year old will say. " OK, then what do you like? "I don't care, just do what you want". Alrighty then....moving on to the boys. "I want a mohawk!" "We don't wear mohawks to church". You get the idea.

Chase takes a nap everyday at 9:30. It's Sunday, so he'll decide to just cry for 45 minutes instead of sleeping. The decibels in my house are substantially rising. I find Taelyn under the table with stolen candy.

We're late for church. somehow what takes 30 minutes to get the kids ready for school, takes 2.5 hours to get ready for church. I wish Jasper were home. I feel guilty for wishing this. Not much time for our reading and reflecting. I don't eat at all. I have mascara on only one eye. I yell at everyone to get the car. I don't put coats on anyone. I forget the snacks because I have gone back to put mascara on the other eye. Oh, and then I remember deodorant. Thank goodness. I almost forget baby Chase. I get him up. He's pooped all up his back. Time to find new clothes. Oh, what's that? No clean clothes? Laundry day in on Monday. I dig something out.

On the way to church Tanner informs me he has a talk today in Primary. No body actually got buckled, except Madeline. Jaren and Tan are in the back turned around pretending to drive a spaceship. They've already asked to ride in the very very back. Got turned down. I look in my rear view mirror and see Chases huge smiling face. I have forgotten to buckle him. He's wiggled and squirmed, turned around and stood up in his car seat. This makes me laugh. Luckily it's only a mile drive to church and we're almost there.

Everyone gets out. We're barely on time! It's a miracle! Time to sit. It's been 5 minutes. "I'm bored" I hear. "I'm hungry" "I'm thirsty" "Can I go sit with Savannah?" "I want to sit with Paige!" "I never get to sit with friends" Tanner cocks his scripture gun and turns around, aiming at all the old people behind us. Jasper busts out the gum.

Peace at last, they all go to primary. I sometimes make it class. I sometimes walk the halls with Chasey face. Which, truly I don't mind. I've made some dear friends this way. We head home. With out Jasper.

Now up to this point, my day has actually been quite successful. For me anyway.

The kids change their clothes into their pj's. It's a Sunday thing. They love it. Go downstairs and have to clean up the breakfast dishes. I get everyone a snack, at least 2 kids don't want what I fix. Things are looking OK still.

Then BAM, something over takes me. All of a sudden everything bugs me, the pantry that isn't organized. And hasn't been for a month. It makes me crazy. It's the weirdest thing. Really and truly, it's like horrible PMS that just hits on Sunday afternoon. Even if I've been really spiritually uplifted at church. It's like my bad mood just kicks in and I feel so helpless. And it's way worse than a normal 'bad mood'. It's almost like I'm on the verge of a meltdown. I can't cope with anything. Sometimes I take a quick nap and that helps. Jasper is so good, he cleans up after everyone and totally helps. Just stays far far away from me. :) He's a smart man.

So....what is going on? Why does this happen? I don't ACTUALLY have those perfection expectations. Not after having more than one child. :) But who knows, maybe deep down that is why. Maybe I secretly wish things would go perfect. Jasper says maybe it makes me crazy trying not to do house work on Sundays. Has this happened to anyone else, or am I (and Emily) just a freak? Just to warn you, if you'd like to say I'm a freak, just don't say it on Sunday. You may not be alive Monday morning. :)

Even sweet Maddie has noticed my bipolarness. Last night when I was putting her to bed she said to me, "mom, just try really hard not to yell at us tomorrow. When you feel like you want to, just hold your anger in and say...Maddie, will you please do this for me? and I will!" Ya, how precious is she? I need some Sunday meds.

Needless to say, this is our life. Most days our life runs like this. I'm not ashamed. It's life. Granted I do have bits of madness daily. But not like on Sundays. I actually don't mind Sunday mornings, or church for that matter, it's AFTER church when the chaos has somewhat subsided that my crazy kicks in. I don't feel like I need to change our routine or anything, I feel good about that. It's not perfect, but it works for us. It's the aftermath of the spiritual high that's just plain weird.

On this note...
I Thought when I got married I had learned it all, now I was to simply multiply and replenish the earth and impart all my wisdom to my posterity. Oh, how wrong I was.

Getting Married

This is Macy and Tanner...

They just got "married". Because Tanner thought she was cute, and once they went to a dance together. Maddie of course affeciated at the ceremony. Then she set up their pose....
except this one...this was Macys idea.
Now, every time Tanner "goes to work" they have to kiss....

The last little while....
I hear Tanner saying "Now I died and went to heaven."

Chasie love

For a while I'm caught glimpses of what I wish I could capture in a picture with me and baby Chase. So today I decided to just try. I can't tell you how happy I am that I did it! It was tricky...I used a fish eye lens so that I didn't have to hold the camera far far away.
I think the images speak for themselves...that's why I love them.

Maddie snapped these two. Thanks Madsie.

I had to get this because when he nursed he HAS to play with my hair. I think it's so endearing.

Madeline or you can call me Maddie

Since this blog has become almost solely a journal for me now...I wanted to tell a bit about each kiddo and what they're like right now....
My oldest.
My beautiful girlie girl Maddie.

Gets up every morning and comes and gets Chase, takes ALL the kids downstairs. She and Jaren get breakfast for everyone while lazy mom stays in bed. I don't like this about myself. I LOVE this about Madeline.
She is always eager to please.
She rarely if ever gets in trouble. She is organized, loves to make schedules and lists. She's a planner.

She still loves her T.V. time. I try to let her watch 30 min. a day, it's her wind down time. She loves Tom and Jerry and iCarly.
She loves people. She may love people even more than I do. And really and truly, I'm a true blue people LOVE-ER.

She's sensitive to the spirit and recognizes it. She loves the piano. Some morning she does NOT want to go to school, then when I pick her up, she misses her teacher 5 minutes after we leave. She still loves art and swimming, and gymnastics. She is a good good girl.
If this sounded like a brag fest, I'm OK with that. I can't speak highly enough of how wonderful my children are despite me and my mothering skills- or lack thereof. Wish there was a manual for that. :)

Jay Bay

OH, my sweet Jaren.

Still acts older than he really is. Has been doing this since he was, oh say, a week old.

He seems to "already know that" whenever we tell him anything....
He loves to take care of people.
Hates being alone.
Has a funny bone...he's actually quite hilarious and silly. But he's got to be 100% comfortable around you to act silly.
Generally ignores people when they talk to him. (we're working on this one)
A peacemaker. Sometimes to a fault.

Already thinks deeply. And asks deep questions.
Hides everything. His excitement. His disappointment. His emotions. This one worries me a little. I'm trying to figure out how to get him to really talk about how he feels. This is NOT an easy task. Any advice would be much appreciated!

This 7 year old is thoughtful, kind, genuine and so caring.
I love you this much Jay Baby

Man in a suit

When I was on my mission in London, one of my companions and I would say some of the elders (boy missionaries) had "man in a suit". Meaning they loved being a suit, they thought it empowered them. Sometimes in a good way, sometimes not so much.

This Tan Man LOVES wearing a suit jacket....and tie. He says "it makes me look like a business guy", or "now I look like a real man".
He no longer makes giant messes anymore or gets naked on a daily basis.
He still says funny things everyday.
He has such a kind heart.
He's very efficient, when he wants to be.
He loves friends.
He loves school.
He loves Taekwon-do. Prays at night that he can "get a gold medal", along with the "no Ezme dream" prayer. And "thank you for the many souls..."
He calls tornados "tormatoes"
I love him.

Baby Chasers

Sweet little man.

This is a great portion of his life right now...

find something
put in mouth

smile at mom
smile at dad
smile at brothers and sisters

find something else
inspect it
purse lips in preparation to suck on object
thoroughly enjoy sucking on toy
touch everything in sight
whenever possible taste that thing
with those sweet, tiny, soft, delicate, tender hands that i love with all my heart

My baby Tae...

Oh my sweet sweet Taelyn Paige. This girl....just thinking about her makes me smile. It's amazing how she's only been with us 3 short years, and yet I can't imagine her ever not being in our family.
*The girl has turned so expressive, when she talks she moves her hands all over and her little eyebrows move up and down with her words. Far too cute.

*She's picky about her clothes. Very opinionated.
*She could live off of chocolate. Hmmm, I wonder where she got that from.
*She ALWAYS HAS to sit in the middle seat at the snack bar. This is not a joke. consider this your warning if you ever come over and want to sit in the middle.
*She loves me to lay by her at bedtime and have her back scratched and sneak into our bed at night.
*She went into primary this month. She misses her sidekick Paige. "I miss her" she proclaims every Saturday night. But she loves it. Reports say that she likes to stand up in the middle of sharing time and give hugs to the leaders. That's my girl.
*She loves loves loves to dance....I see a must needed dance class in her future.
*She is a social butterfly. Always wanting to go and play with her friends, or my friends for that matter. Or shop.
*She loves to play family and tell people how to think and exactly what to do. She is a true woman.

*She gets away with FAR too much....it's her Dad's fault.
*She has a little lisp when she says her "s's" I find it completely heart melting and adorable.

Good Morning to you

So yesterday was MLK day. He was an amazing man.

All the kids have already been up for a good hour. I finally get up and walk out of my bedroom. The smell of nail polish stings my nose hairs. Uh-oh. I look around and can't find it. Not in the boys room, or the girls...then I look at Chasers. Oh good, bright pink nail polish all around your mouth, and your pants, and my favorite onesie. Who could have done this to you? TAELYN. I find her. She has on one of her favorite pink silky night gowns, that is now covered with pink nail polish, along with her special towel. And don't worry, her nails are freshly painted.
Good morning to me.
I do have to say, I'm just glad it wasn't all over the carpet. I wish I would have busted out the camera. Time to start that with Tae, she is a giant mess maker.

Oh, a good 5 months ago...

Last August we went to Bear Lake. It was such a good time. We went with our great friends who also have a butt load of kids. It's nice go places with them because we seem to have equal insanity around us. The noise level is never low. The kids always have someone to play with and we really love Greg and Emily. Since I'm creating this blog in place of my journal, I had to add mounds of photos. :)
Bear Lake is so gorgeous! And check out this rainbow. Tender.
This was our view from where we stayed. Perfect weather!

We spent all day on the lake one day...it was so beautiful. We found the perfect little beach that was shallow for a good 1/4 mile. And the sand.....oh, I wish I was there now to put my feet in that sand. The beach is my favorite place. Jaren and Austin playing...
Chases first experience with sand....it was hilarious. He just kept trying to eat it. And had a scowl on his face the entire time. I love his mini feet in this photo!

Sweet Tae Tae playing in the sand. Loves Dora, that dang paci, nursery & friends.

Greg gave Tanner the wheel to drive the boat. He was sooooooo excited! He actually did pretty good!
The Men. Enough said...

Buster, Chuckles, Chasey-face, Chasers
Tae and her BFF Paige
We burried Maddie...she was a good sport. I would like her stop growing up. Now.

We spent a good hour making a castle village...it was pretty awesome when we were done. Thanks to Emily for snapping some of me with my kiddies!

With in MINUTES of getting to the beach I felt something cold on my chest. I thought a kid had spit on me or something. Then Emily looks and tells me I've been POOPED on! Dang dittley ding dang dong bird! We laughed pretty hard though....you can barely see it in this pic - it's right smack dab in the middle of my chest. Yellow. And gross.

Now, let me tell you about what happened after this perfect day (minus 3 babies screaming because the couldn't get to sleep on the boat, and a 2 yr old and 3 yr. old who love to whine, and the few fights between the other 5 kids). We're unloading the boat after it's been docked in the marina. The kids (8 of them) are in one van watching a movie- we can see them from where the boat is. I grab a giant Ikea back full of towels and beach stuff. I get the keys out of the bag and put them in the other hand. I'm walking down the dock, I adjust my gianormous bag. Somehow as I'm adjusting the tip of the bag hits my keys and fly up and over me. Straight. Into. The. Water. I watch them sink, slowly, not knowing what to do. I think "If I just in I'll lose my sunglasses" what the?! So I scream for Jasper. Then walk back to Emily and her 2 babies and the men. I can't believe what I've just done. Now, back up one week. I'm at church and I lose my keys. No where to be found. They're gone. That leaves me with ONE and only ONE set of keys. They're now at the bottom of the Bear Lake Marina. Now, thank goodness we were with Greg and Emily. They laughed about it. They kept us calm. Even Jasper didn't freak out. So Greg and Jasper try going down into the water. It's so merky and dark and just plain scary. And really pretty dangerous. It's 12 feet to the bottom. They give that a try for a while. Then we decide to wait until morning. We ALL stuff into ONE van, 10 kids, 3 are in infant car seats, and 4 adults. Can you just imagine how LOUD that drive home was? Everyone was hungry and tired. The babies were crying - I wanted to join in.
So, we look at all our options. It will take me getting our van towed to the next town- an hour away to have them look at our car and see if they can make us new keys. Because they have a computer chip in them, it may cost up to $2000. Yes, seriously. And it'll take 3-4 days. So Jasper and Greg get these long poles and stick magnets on the end....they did that at the marina the next day for like 4 hours. HAHAHA! No luck. So we have to stay an extra day- Macy misses her first day of Kindergarten. :) Monday Jasper decides to call a scuba diver. Brill. They come out and found our keys in 20 minutes! It was really really quite the ordeal. But a fabulous memory. PLUS, we got to stay in that beautiful place for an extra day.
And home we went.... :) The next Sunday, someone turned in my keys.
